Issue 51

Week 22, 2015

UI development

  • A detailed walk-through the process of building a web voice recording app: Voice Memos by aerotwist.
  • Guidelines for Animation Timing states that this fancy animation you’re using should last between 150 and 350 milliseconds.
  • While we’re at it, Crafting Easing Curves for UIs by Ryan Brownhill shows some crazy math approach to tweak animation-timing-function property of a CSS animation.
  • npm check updates looks through all your package npm dependencies and updates package.json for you. You can then review the list, leave only the ones you’re interested in updating and simply npm install. Nice work.
  • Fira Code, a monospaced font with programming ligatures.
  • The End of Global CSS enthusiastically explains the funkiness of local scoping styles with css-loader for Webpack. Here a sample configuration.

UI Design

Things Web

  • Winners of the 19th Annual Webby Awards is a monster-compilation of all the goodness of the last year’s Web on one page. Plenty of inspiration there.
  • Choosing performance is an interesting look at Facebook’s new Instant Articles stating that publishers wouldn’t really need to syndicate their content elsewhere if their sites would perform better.
